Welcome to Year 8
Our focus in Year 8 is preparing our pupils for the transition to High School, whilst also celebrating their four years with us at St. John's.
During this year we choose particular pupils for highly responsible roles such as Prefects, House Captains, Young Leaders and Mentors. Year 8s provide positive role models for our younger pupils who are dedicated to our school ethos.
Ms R. Bourne
Head of Year 8
The year is full of exciting events, including our Careers Day, where pupils get to experience a variety of exciting jobs and culminates in their final Summer Ball, where they bid a final farewell to the staff and pupils they've shared the past four years studying with. Pupils are encouraged to participate in a range of activities this year as it really is the final countdown to High School.
Our annual Poetry Slam is always extremely popular and we are immensely proud of our highly successful record in the inter-schools competition. No pressure Year 8!
Year 8 pupils also have the opportunity to become legal eagles, participating in a Mock Trial competition at Worcester Magistrates and Crown Courts. An amazing experience not to be missed by anyone contemplating a future career in law.
In addition to all of this we have our annual Ski trip, trips to London, RE trips and a range of excellent after school clubs, charity events and sporting opportunities, ensuring that there's something to suit absolutely everyone in their final year here.
Working closely with the High Schools, our team always ensures that pupils are sufficiently confident for the move and regular visits from their new Heads of Year, as well as various dual projects and visits to the High Schools, help to ease the transition for even the most nervous year 8. Year 8 is all about giving of your best. It really is the time of your life, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do, every year!
